We are moving on from Dianna Ploss. Because she has now been de-platformed from most social media after she took part in the insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 she has become ineffectual, inert, and probably lost now that all of the conspiracy theories she promoted have unraveled. It continues to be unfortunate that people try and insert themselves into the movement and conversation around racial justice purely to be road blocks and perhaps to stroke their own egos. But now that this particular road block has been removed, let's dedicate ourselves to furthering this conversation and taking positive action to make our communities inclusive and welcoming for everyone
For Swampscott, we will be pressing town leadership to create a task force ASAP to tackle the creation of a much needed committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We need to move quickly to take actions that help to heal the community harm that Dianna and others have caused. It is not simply enough that things will be "calm" again.
We also want to give our continued support to those that stand out peacefully and unencumbered at our town's Civil War monument on Thursdays now to those that proudly display that Black Lives Matter. These folks never wavered and have turned what started as a counter-protest into a positive show of ongoing support. Additionally, we continue to support the peaceful stand out that happens every Sunday in front of the Swampscott Police Station for the unjust arrest of a counter-protester that occurred at one of Diana's hate rallies in December. We will be following the internal investigation that has resulted from this as close as we can and lending support where possible.
