As a long-time, paying user of Proton's products—including email, VPN, password manager, and calendar—I've greatly valued the privacy and security that Proton offers. However, one missing piece in this otherwise comprehensive suite is the ability to use Proton Drive via a dedicated Linux desktop application.

Proton has been my go-to provider because of its commitment to privacy and user-centric services. Yet, when it comes to managing my files and data on Proton Drive, I'm restricted to using the web interface. This is not just a minor inconvenience but a significant hurdle, especially considering that Linux is my primary operating system.

After five years of Proton Drive's existence, it's disheartening to see that there is still no official desktop application for Linux users. Meanwhile, Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS users enjoy the convenience of dedicated apps. The absence of a Linux app is inexplicable: Linux users constitute a notable portion of Proton's customer base.

Linux users have often been early adopters and advocates of Proton's services due to shared values of open-source and privacy-first ideologies. By not offering a Linux desktop app for Proton Drive, Proton misses an opportunity to fully support and engage a vital segment of its community.
