The first time I watched Troy (2004), I was completely drawn into its world. Over the years, I have returned to it again and again, and every time I watch it, I leave with the same thought. Why was this story never continued?

The Odyssey has been adapted many times, but no modern film series has ever adapted The Iliad and The Odyssey as two connected chapters of the same story. Homer’s tale of the Trojan War and Odysseus’ journey home were always meant to belong to the same larger narrative, yet no modern cinematic universe has ever allowed audiences to experience that complete journey with the same cast, the same world, and the same continuity. Troy gave us the fall of Troy. It also created the perfect foundation for what comes next.

More than twenty years after the release of Troy, the timing feels right. Sean Bean is still an outstanding actor, and today he naturally fits the older, more experienced Odysseus from Homer’s The Odyssey. Rather than starting over with another adaptation, this film could continue the world that audiences already know.

One of the most exciting opportunities would be expanding the world that Troy established without abandoning its identity. The original film treated Greek mythology in a grounded way, keeping the gods and the supernatural largely in the background. A continuation could begin in exactly the same style. As Odysseus sails farther from the familiar world and into unknown waters, the mythical side of Greek legend could slowly emerge. Instead of immediately introducing monsters and gods, the audience would discover them alongside Odysseus. What first appears to be an ordinary voyage could gradually become something stranger, allowing the film to remain faithful to the tone of Troy while naturally growing into the world of The Odyssey.

This approach would make encounters with the Cyclops, the Sirens, Circe, Scylla and Charybdis, and the journey into the Underworld feel like genuine discoveries rather than a sudden change in genre. It would also create the opportunity for Brad Pitt to return as Achilles during Odysseus’ visit to the Underworld, exactly as Homer wrote. Seeing those two characters share one final scene would be a powerful way to connect the two films and one of the most memorable moments in the story.

This is not simply about making another sequel. It is about completing a story that has remained unfinished for more than twenty years. With the right creative team and respect for the original film, a continuation of Troy could introduce a new generation to one of the greatest stories ever written while giving longtime fans the ending they have been waiting for.
