The Issue

I am Jewish and have been horrified that so many atrocities are being done in our name. I refuse to have my identity and values used to justify violence, oppression and the suffering of innocent people. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is currently engaged in activities that cause tremendous harm and, in many instances, stand in direct conflict with the principles I hold dear. This is not abstract—it is real, and it is unacceptable.

I believe it's crucial to designate the IDF as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). According to U.S. law, to be classified as such, the organization must meet three specific criteria: it must be a foreign organization, engage in terrorist activity or terrorism, and its actions must threaten the security of U.S. nationals or the national security (defense, foreign relations, or economic interests) of the United States.

Firstly, the IDF is unequivocally a foreign entity that operates outside U.S. jurisdiction. It acts in a militaristic capacity on behalf of the state of Israel, thereby fulfilling the first statutory requirement.

Secondly, there have been numerous instances suggesting engagement in terrorist activities. The IDF's operations often involve actions against civilian populations, continuous war crimes, disproportionate use of force, and tactics that induce fear, which align with the definitions of terrorism as per international understanding.

Finally, these activities threaten U.S. national security. The volatile nature of the Middle East's geopolitics means that aggressive actions by the IDF could draw retaliations or escalate tensions, placing U.S. nationals and interests at risk both domestically and abroad. In addition, these actions risk damaging U.S. economic interests—destabilizing global markets, straining trade relationships, and increasing the likelihood of economic repercussions tied to prolonged conflict and regional instability

Designating the IDF as a foreign terrorist organization could prompt accountability, encourage changes in policy, and reaffirm the values of democracy and human rights that are cherished by many across the globe.
