🧱 Background

Evanston/Skokie School District 65 is currently facing many challenges. These have led to uncertainty concerning the future viability of several schools, including Lincolnwood Elementary. Before initiating any closings we urge our elected school and community leaders to further explore the many factors - academic, community, historic, economic, quality of life - that a neighborhood school directly impacts. Pursuing a landmark status for Lincolnwood and preserving its adjoining open land for future generations is a proactive step to protect this thriving, long standing and multi-community asset.

📜  Our Nomination

On Wednesday, October 22nd, we nominated Lincolnwood School as a landmark with the City of Evanston in an effort to preserve the architecture, as well as the cultural and social heritage of the building and grounds. The full nomination is linked below and contained within the agenda from the first hearing.

📌 Our NEXT Meeting: March 10, 2026

Evanston’s Preservation Commission will meet again on Tuesday, March 10th at 7:00 p.m. to discuss next steps regarding our case to landmark Lincolnwood. Please feel welcome to attend the meeting at City Hall. At the start of the meeting, there will be an opportunity to make public comments. If interested in speaking, please sign-up here.

🏛️ Why pursue a landmark?

Landmarking Lincolnwood School is a powerful step toward safeguarding one of Evanston’s cherished community assets. By securing this designation, we ensure that the building and grounds are respected—not just today, but for generations to come. This effort builds on the existing deed restrictions and sends a clear message: our community treasures this place, and we are committed to its future.
