Wow! I’m posting this update to thank everyone and answer some of the more common questions I’ve been asked. I really cannot describe how I feel right now; the support that I have received has been nothing short of amazing. I want to thank everyone who has signed, from my friends and family who have supported me from day one; to those whom I have never met in person, but still signed the petition as well as shared it online. I never could have imagined the outpouring of support from the local community (even though I’ve just moved to Purcellville) as well as the pole vault community. As a member of the pole vault community for a couple years now I’ve seen how fantastically close knit everyone is; but it is still amazing and humbling to see the outpouring of support from across the nation. Thank you everyone for your support. I also wanted to take this opportunity to try and help clarify some things as well as give an idea of what I’m doing next. A lot of people have asked “How many signatures do you need?” There is not a set number of signatures that I need to bring the pole vault to Loudoun county; I am really sorry if I was not clear about that. The reason I started this petition was to prove to the administration that there is a significant desire for pole vault in Loudoun county (as a side note I don’t set the signature goals, change.org does it automatically.) People have also asked what for what reason is pole vault not allowed; frankly it is difficult to  tell. It is not a money issue, as insurance for pole vault is the same injury insurance needed for high schools to have football, baseball, etc. When we contacted the administration they wouldn’t give a reason other than stating that there was “no plans to implement the pole vault at this time” upon further questioning they would refuse to answer, only repeating the previous statement. That is not a satisfactory answer or reasoning. Which leads me into what my plans are next. Currently my parents and I (as a minor I need some backup working with the school board) are working on contacting the Derek Ferrey in a face to face meeting to talk about this issue and get some better information.
