Deplatform Nathan Gallagher and hold Bravo and NBC accountable
The Issue
Bravo TV series, Below Deck: Mediterranean’s Bosun Nathan Gallagher, has two active warrants against him—one for assault in Ireland in and another for a domestic violence charge in Australia.
He is currently on the run after being found absent from his court date regarding DV.
Seeing someone with a history of violence being glorified on a television platform is not only distressing but also dangerously irresponsible.
Domestic violence is a serious issue that affects countless individuals worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1 in 3 women globally have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.
Allowing someone like Nathan Gallagher to remain on such a public platform not only disregards the safety and well-being of both past and potential future victims but also sends a harmful message to viewers that such behaviors can be overlooked if one is in the entertainment industry. To profit off of this TV personality without any acknowledgement of the current news shows that the networks care more about their bottom line than they do anything else - at a victim’s expense.
The main storyline portrayed for Gallagher in the current season of Below Deck: Mediterranean, involves Gallagher's victim and their child. This is grossly insensitive and invalidating to the experiences of survivors everywhere. Domestic violence is not entertainment, and networks like Bravo and NBC should take heed of the messages they perpetuate.
Bravo and NBC owe it to their viewers, particularly those who have experienced domestic violence, to take a stand. We're calling upon these networks to immediately deplatform Nathan Gallagher and discontinue the airing of any content featuring him. Further, they should issue a public apology and a statement acknowledging the severity of domestic violence, and their commitments to ensuring that those involved in such actions are not given a platform on their shows.
We urge Bravo and NBC to take this matter seriously, to uphold standards of integrity, and to protect the dignity and safety of their audience members. Please join us in signing this petition to demand accountability and change from networks that influence millions daily. Let’s stand together in support of domestic violence survivors and ensure that television is a safe space for everyone.
