Minor Roadworks/ Major Improvement
The issue
I am writing this petition to urge the Department of Transport and Main Roads to develop a Turning Lane for Mount Gravatt-Capalaba Road into Auckland Street in Wishart, QLD, 4122.
This problematic turn has been a nightmare for decades. It is time a proper turning lane is developed so that residents of Auckland Street and all the streets surrounding it can turn into that corner safely.
The turn is at the bottom of a steep declining hill on a dual lane road with a speed limit of 60km/h. Being a main road, Mount Gravatt-Capalaba Road is extremely busy and often frequented by large trucks which are required to be in the left lane. The lack of a turning lane forces the turning vehicle to either take the corner at an unsafe speed or risk being rear-ended by a semi-trailer.
The road is only just too narrow to redo the line markings to accommodate a turning lane. The only land that would need to be utilised is an often unkempt nature strip and the impact on the environment would be minimal.
The cost of the roadwork is far outweighed by the potential risk for the multiple thousands of drivers that use Mount Gravatt-Capalaba Road and Auckland Street every day. We should be proactive and get this lane added now, rather than reactive and install the lane after someone is seriously injured or killed.
This roadwork won't only benefit the residents of the area but everyone that uses Mount Gravatt-Capalaba Road. Brisbane City Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads have both been contacted to request this roadwork and no progress has been made so I need your help.
Please sign this petition and share it amongst anyone you might know that uses Mount Gravatt-Capalaba Road.
