This petition is against the brutal rituals of Animal Sacrifice and Slaughter which are followed during a festival called Dashain in Nepal. Dashain is a 15 day long festival celebrated around September/October each year, during which gruesome acts of animal cruelty take place throughout Nepal. Hundreds and thousands of animals are sacrificed and abused; many of these animals are given severe punishment and are kept and fed in horrendous conditions.

The festival of Dashain is originally meant to celebrate the triumph of good over evil i.e. gods over demons and - as per ancient hindu scriptures - marks the victory of goddess Durga over demon king Mahishasura; and victory of Lord Ram over demon king Raavan, with the help of monkey king lord Hanuman.
During the 15 days of festival, various festivities take place: homes are cleansed, painted, lighted and beautifully decorated for the occasion and people visit their family and friends to celebrate it together.
However, the festival has sadly taken a completely different form now and has a much darker and cruel side to it, which results in unimaginable and abhorrent killing of countless animals.

Animals silently look upon us humans as their protectors, friends and care takers, completely unaware of the fact that today some of us have actually deviated and are doing the exact opposite!
It is time we kept their trust and respected their unwavering loyalty and love, which they selflessly shower on us!

And though, there is still plenty of time left for Dashain as of now, we decided to start this petition today, because using all this time, we intend to reach out to as many people as possible in every part and corner of the world, thus spread awareness about the violent rituals followed during the festival, and eventually be able to stop it!

* Our aim is not to stop the festival of Dashain, but to stop all forms of animal cruelty, slaughter and sacrifice committed during Dashain!

We urge you all to share the petition with everyone you can on every possible social media platform – you may also trend globally on social media with hashtags such as #NepalStopAnimalCruelty -  and help create so much positive noise against the festival that our collective roar and protest are successful in hitting the ears and conscience of the Nepalese government on time!

And we have following demands:
1. Stop animal sacrifice and slaughter during Dashain - making it a cruelty free festival.
2. Educate people about the animal rights, ensuring every Nepalese citizen is better aware of animal protection laws.
3. Mechanism to prevent and punish repeat abuse of animals.
