Department of Family and Protective Services Officials to Immediately Resign

The Issue

We, as Child Welfare Advocates and National Civil & Human Rights Activist, are compelled to address the corruption and alarming crisis faced by foster youth in the state of Texas under the leadership of Stephanie Muth (DFPS Commissioner), Erica Banuelos (DFPS Associate Commissioner for Child Protective Services), and Marta Talbert (DFPS Associate Commissioner for Child Protective Investigations). The circumstance is severely urgent, children under their leadership are experiencing unacceptable rates of physical abuse, sexual exploitation, sex trafficking, and over medication. Furthermore, they are being placed in unlicensed and unregulated housing without proper safety, food, or bedding, putting their lives at extreme risk.

After a comprehensive review of multiple state and federal lawsuits, press conferences from civil rights activists, and published news articles, it has been revealed that there is widespread corruption within the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). The evidence has showed that this agency has failed to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children and youth in their care, failed to properly investigate cases of child abuse, failed to inform children and youth in care of their rights, and much more!

In light of these horrific findings, we are strongly advocating for the immediate resignation or impeachment of not only these individuals, but the entire DFPS leadership, as they have compromised the trust and dignity of the children in their care. It is imperative that we prioritize the protection and respect of foster youth, recognizing their inherent value as children deserving a safe and supportive environment. Any form of corruption, exploitation, or degradation must be addressed with the utmost urgency to prevent long lasting trauma for these children and youth under the care of DFPS.

We are urgently calling upon all Texans, activists, advocates, community leaders, and state officials to join us in signing this petition to express our concerns and demand accountability from these individuals by resigning from their positions.
