The issue

This petition is now closed, and I have submitted the letter to DELWP. Thank you everyone for your support!

The Victorian Government is trying to secure land for future quarrying, but they have selected an area that has high environmental values. We want them to reconsider the area that they have selected, and want them to consider the environment when selecting areas for quarrying.

The Adams Creek Nature Conservation Reserve is surrounded by large buffers of important habitat, representing one of the last habitat patches in a degraded and fragmented landscape. It provides irreplaceable habitat for endangered species such as the Southern Brown Bandicoot and provides homes for many other native animals, birds and flora.

The area is already threatened by existing quarry activities, and the proposed changes to the planning scheme would designate the Adams Creek reserve and surrounding habitat for mining. This would be an irreversible change and would mean that we would lose not only the species and habitat in the area, but we would also lose important areas for recreational walking and hiking.

We want them to instead place the overlay in an already degraded area and be forced to consider the environmental impacts that the planning scheme changes would have. Because if we don't act now and force them to consider these environmental impacts, then we will have missed our opportunity to protect the habitat while we still can!

Note - please don't make a donation -- I'm not soliciting donations, I'm just collecting signatures -- those emails come from change.org and the money goes there too.

I will then submit the letter with everyone's signatures to have the greatest impact.
