The Issue

The Education Department is trying to cancel more than $1 billion in unspent federal relief aid sent to schools to help address the wreckage of the pandemic.

The COVID-19 school aid — are funds that were specifically set aside to help students still recovering from the academic and emotional impact of the pandemic.

The money was meant to support students from low-income families, homeless youth, and those who fell behind during school closures.

Instead, the Department of Education wants to take it back.

States were given until 2026 to spend these funds. Students are still catching up. The money is still needed.

It was never meant to be a political bargaining chip.

We call on the Department of Education to release the full $1 billion in pandemic school aid immediately.

Honor the original purpose of this funding — to support students who need it most.

Sign the petition to demand the Department of Education release the funding and keep its promise to America’s schools and students.
