As all the girls in the Meriton know well we couldn't of been so successful without the hard work in this place it way a place of help for the young mum's in Bristol and we need to save it!!

 The Meriton
The Meriton in Bristol is a specialist pupil referral unit that provides education, support, and a lifeline to mothers aged 13-19 in Bristol and the the surrounding areas.
Childcare is one of the largest barriers to young mothers continuing their education, the Meriton combats this with a nursery on site, enabling the young women to continue their education as soon as 6 weeks post birth.
The Meriton has been consistently rated as 'Outstanding' by offsted, started almost 40 years ago it has given education to hundreds of young mothers and been a beacon of sexual education, helping to reduce the number of teen pregnancies each year in Bristol.
Although a fantastic achievement, this is the very reason the Meriton is set to close, funding for the unit is provided based on the numbers of girls attending, no provision is granted by the government for the post 16 provision, in which the girls gain A level's, & qualifications in level 1,2 & 3 which enable them to go on to university or work.
As each year has seen a steady decline in the number of teen girls becoming pregnant, so to has been the decline of funds coming in to the unit, there is NO other provision of this sort anywhere in Bristol, or indeed anywhere close to Bristol. In a city so large, so well celebrated in every other area, culture, our green values, our shared vision for a better city, it is a travesty that some of our most vulnerable citizens are being left behind.
As the saying goes, 'Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime'
At the Meriton we are teaching girls to fish, giving them back their confidence, building up their self esteem and constantly affirming to them that they can be, and do, ANYTHING.
These girls need an education, a place where they are safe and valued, so that they can rise to their fullest potential, and become the amazing women and role models to their children that they were always born to be.
