The much loved & extremely popular after hours activities at Altona Primary School have been stopped.

Altona Primary School offered outstanding  After School Activities, one of which is an extremely popular guitar lesson. Attending this class means my son doesn't have to go to After School Care ($22) which he dislikes and no guilt for me because he loves this class.
The 1hr class is $10 and is run by the schools two coolest music teachers. Children & parents absolutely love this class, and all equipment is supplied.
The Department of Education has stopped All, After School Activities that the teachers run, as it is deemed a possible conflict of interest for the school that the teachers,  teach their own students out of hours and make a profit.

On looking into the guidelines from the Dept of Education, I was pleased to read each case is dealt with on an individual basis.    The  words " Must Consider" are used in the guidelines,  but no "Must Not" . So it's open to interpretation, transparency would be the key. Which does make sense

There is NO POLICY to say teachers can't run these classes.. The principal/school has to agree, (which she does) and the teachers have to submit the appropriate forms (which the have). We have not received a clear answer as to why they have stopped, just that it is a Conflict Of Interest. 

So now it is down to the people it directly affects to try to reverse this ridiculous decision.

The children & parents are devastated by this, my son is now a competent musician solely because of his dedicated teachers.
Why can't the teachers make a small profit from their abilities?. Who is compromised?

My son just played a guitar solo at the school concert and it was one of our most proudest moments, as he was playing  his music teachers were bowing to him!! so cool!     Each night my son was not playing computers or watching TV, he was practicing his guitar, this is solely due to these teachers and their after school lessons. 

Every body was a winner, the results of these classes were outstanding to all involved. Somebody, somewhere made this decision and now it has negatively impacted so many�
Others classes cancelled I believe are dancing and science.
For the future musicians, dancers and budding scientists who need & enjoy extra tuition.
