We are writing to the government to request that the entire summer term dates for schools be officially moved as follows: to have all teachers and students come back to school on Monday 25th May (the original May half-term week), with the whole term continuing without a half-term break, ending Friday 31 July.

By doing so:

1) Everyone can return with enough reassurance that it would be safe enough to do so, with the society on the whole getting back on its feet to a certain degree by then, and schools having had enough time to install any necessary safety measures;

2) No teachers or parents would have to endure the agony of devising and supervising remote teaching/learning - a perpetually problematic alternative to the real classroom experience;

3) The length of the term would only be one week shorter than the original dates, and schools would not have to go through the painstaking and thankless task of adjusting fees.
