Coronavirus - VIC state schools to isolate students at risk for two weeks
Coronavirus - VIC state schools to isolate students at risk for two weeks
The issue
The Wuhan coronavirus situation is evolving rapidly now given the high infection in China and global connectivity of Chinese diaspora. The World Health Organisation has amended the global health risk for the virus from “moderate“ to “high”.
Some schools in NSW have imposed a ban on students returning from China. A few private schools in Victoria are doing the same. Students are required to obtain a medical certificate stating they are healthy before allowing back into schools. https://www.theguardian.com/science/2020/jan/27/sydney-schools-ask-students-returning-from-china-to-stay-away-amid-coronavirus-fears
I urge the Victorian government to take no chances when it comes to managing the risks of the coronavirus, especially when it comes to our children. Victoria state schools should isolate students returning from China for 14 days so as to ensure a safe learning environment for the wider community. This policy needs to kick in immediately with school resuming this week.
