Addition of proper sex education to the curriculum in schools

Addition of proper sex education to the curriculum in schools
The Issue
Indians, sometimes even the well-read, broad-minded kind, often tend to attach a whole lot of sensitivity to the topic of sex, regarding it with the most vicious taboo. It is thus a natural consequence that education that teaches their children about sexual well-being is met with the highest resistance possible – from parents, teachers, lawmakers and nosy neighbours, especially nosy neighbours.
The common ways in which we all get introduced to the concept of sex is through friends and unfortunately through the internet. The chapters in science textbooks regarding reproduction are conveniently skipped, and that is how the data of misconceptions keeps on updating itself. It is largely believed that talking about sexuality and its awareness may instead corrupt young adolescents. Au contraire, they are the perfect target of corruption if left untaught about their bodies, leaving them highly vulnerable in the midst of their own physiological changes.
Benefits of sex education:-
· Teaching children the basics of sexual activity can help prevent unprotected sex, teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
· Sex education helps teenagers understand themselves biologically and prepare to face the world so that they do not fall victim to sexual predators. It also empowers girls and boys to speak up if their sexual boundaries are violated.
It shall increase well-being by enhancing the quality of life and relationship of young people.
Recognizing different physical and medical symptoms of change and knowing when it is abnormal. In cases of abnormality noticed, who to approach and discuss
Cases of rape where the perpetrator is a minor, violence between sexes who are minors, teen and pre-teen pregnancy, incest, etc are all manifestations of lack of social, sexual and moral education. Clearly, sex a topic that needs to be talked about without the fear of judgement and adolescence is the perfect age to educate teenagers about it. This can easily be done by including proper sex education in the curriculum schools.
So I take a stand along with millions of other adolescents and demand that proper sex education be made a compulsion in schools-government or private. This is the need of the hour and definitely not a subject to be taken lightly. Only with proper sex education will we be able to give birth to a society of young adults that are more aware.
