4-Day School Week

4-Day School Week
The Issue
Nowadays, students suffer from so much stress and pressure that leads to having illnesses due to lack of sleep, not being able to eat on time, etc. All the piled-up school works and deadlines, makes it impossible for the students to prioritize their physical health and also their mental health.
Implementing a 4-day school week brings a lot of benefits not only to students but also to their teachers and to their school. First, the improvement of attendance. Students and teachers take lesser absents because they have a longer rest time compared to the normal 5-day school week. Second, the number of discipline referral for students, reduced. Discipline referral meaning, the misbehavior of a student in a classroom, and how the teacher handles or disciplines that particular student. Third, the expenses of both the parents and the institution will lessen. Parents will spend less on transportation (school bus, private vehicle, or commute), and the school will spend less on electricity, water, and food. Fourth, the performance of students academically will improve. According to a statistic, students from The Oakridge School District in Oregon, improved on their test scores when they implemented a 4-day school week. Lastly, it is easier to recruit school staffs because of the 3-day weekend that can be used for staff development.
A 4-day school week should be implemented to all schools, through this, students, teachers, and school staffs will have more rest time, lessening the risk for their health, it helps improve the students' performance, it will reduce expenses, and it will also be beneficial for school staffs.
