Please, let us help stop the spread of COVID-19 inside Connecticut state prisons!

Hello, I am currently a single mother of a 10-month-old child whose father was recently was incarcerated in the beginning of this year due to a violation of probation. Still human, may I add, this was something that none of us expected as we were getting ready to start our new year with our brand-new baby boy during a potential COVID-19 outbreak in the US. Unfortunately, the pandemic has spread to the US at staggering numbers as well as into the state prisons.  My loved one is extremely ILL among with over a hundred others locked inside cells begging for inhalers and crying for help at MacDougall Walker-CI.

I know that I cannot be the only one out here who has a loved one, incarcerated or not, that you can not imagine a life without. There are specific guidelines and protocols that are to be followed during COVID according to the CDC and WHO. These guidelines are not being followed in the state prisons, specifically MacDougall Walker CI. There has been a handful of lawsuits already in place according to the ACLU for the Connecticut DOC being unconstitutional during the pandemic. But who profits off those suits? Apparently not the infected and not those with preexisting conditions who are still caged inhumanely waiting to get sick. Inmates are being refused of daily showers, they are sharing sanitary supplies, and you can forget about the 6 feet apart rule.

 I am asking for a CHANGE in the way Connecticut is handling their prison systems during a pandemic and an early release for my child’s father. These prisoners have been exposed to the virus with little to no precautions. They are locked in cells for hours in a day. How does one get the virus in a cell? Please, help me in getting this deserving man back home safely to his family and help us to seek justice for the many women and men locked in cells being exposed to this deadly virus.
