The government is recklessly allowing private firms to steadily take over higher education in the UK with little or no oversight. As a result, the UK is seeing the privatisation of higher education at a faster rate than any other European country.

Over the past few years, profit-hungry private equity (PE) firms have been piling in, loading up on debt, aggressively cutting costs, and putting students' future at risk.

In July, one of the biggest PE-owned institutions, GSM London, announced it's shutting shop this September. That's created chaos for 3,500 students and around 250 staff, who are faced with huge uncertainty over their futures. GSM London has campuses in Greenford and Greenwich, so their closure affects students and staff across both West and South East London.

We call on the government to end their damaging privatisation agenda in higher education and make sure all students can attend institutions that are stable, well-regulated, and public.
