On January 11th, 2017, my son, Landon Rasmussen was tragically taken from us due to the negligence caused by Rebecca Marie Estrada Peeples. The worst possible news was brought to me as a mother. Landon had drowned because she decided to walk away from my 8-month-old after she placed him in a jacuzzi style bathtub for supposedly throwing up on himself. Never once did she mention anything to me about Landon feeling unwell nor did she ever request me to pick him up in after this supposed "throw up spell".  Rebecca took it upon herself to stick him in a bath full of water which later on was found to be over his stomach. My son was just learning to crawl, didn't have 100% stable balance to be able to hold himself up. In one of the statements, she claimed the water was so high she wasn't able to see him at first. It was later proven that when EMT's arrived, my son was laying on the floor naked, blue and lifeless while she failed to preform CPR. Instead, she chooses to be away from him after she decided to lay him down on cold tile floor waiting for the Killeen paramedics to arrive. Medics were able to get his heart pumping, but Landon never woke. Two weeks later, my sons' organs had begun to fail as his little body couldn’t fight anymore. January 29th, 2017, he left this earth. 

June 2018 my son Landon, and everyone that loves him received a miscarriage of justice from Bell County 27th Judicial District after Judge John Gauntt granted Rebecca a slap on the wrist for killing an innocent life. 10 years' probation. 10 years of her being able to be home with her family and watch her young kids grow. 10 years of minor fees and courses. 10 years of minor check ins with her probation officer. She got it good, and my son lost it all. Bell County let my son down. They let my family down. They granted a 30-year-old woman who knew right from wrong a second chance regardless of her constant story changes. Regardless of her washing evidence. Regardless of finding out her story was never true behind the reason on why she walked away. Regardless of all the witness statements. Regardless of her response to the question "why did you choose to bathe him in that tub on the other side of the house rather than your kids' infant tub right next to where you were." That response was "I didn't want him contaminating my kids' things." Let me make this clear... I would have taken home a dirty baby over a dead one ANY DAY. 

August 21, 2023, I received an email from Bell County District Attorney letting me know a court date because Rebecca Marie Estrada filed a motion for early release after completing half of the 10 years sentenced. We pray Bell County has the dignity to prevail and ensure my son, Landon Rasmussen didn’t lose his life for nothing. My sweet baby would have been 7 years old and in the 2nd grade this year hadn't this happened. Please pray for our strength. #JUSTICEFORLANDON
