India needs Dentists!

The Issue

*The decision to cancel 13 UPSC posts of Assistant Divisional Dental Surgeons by the Ministry of Railways, and 10 UPSC posts by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is not only a grievous blow to qualified Dental Surgeons in India, but also to patients suffering from dental caries, tooth loss, oral and maxillofacial disorders and oral cancer. *Currently in India, according to WHO, dentist to population ratio is 1:30000 (very low by global standards) *Dental Surgeons in India are the worst victims of unemployment crisis among health workers. *There is a general disillusionment among qualified Dental Surgeons regarding their unemployment in the public sector. *There is also general lack of awareness among public regarding dental and oral health, and hazards of tobacco use. *The poor and downtrodden section of the public cannot afford private dental treatment. *Dental Surgeons in public service are absolutely essential to address these prevalent problems. *Cancellation of UPSC posts sends out wrong signals to qualified graduates, and contributes to the disillusionment in the government's policies especially regarding unemployment and healthcare. *There are many qualified Dental Surgeons among us who have been aspiring for public service; some of us could have been earning good money from private practice. *The Dental Council of India should appeal to the employers viz. Ministry of Railways and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to revoke the cancellation of the above-mentioned posts, since the candidates have already submitted their applications. *If this petition reaches the addressees, and they take note of this grievous error in their judgement and respond appropriately, everybody wins, especially the public. *Please sign my petition, and share it on all forms of social media.
