Target's recent rollbacks in their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies is a retroactive step we cannot condone. This policy shift seems to imply that the values, experiences, and identities of its consumers as a whole are lesser priorities compared to profits. As customers, we strongly believe that businesses should reflect the equitable and inclusionary values its customers uphold. 

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau reveals that 40% of the population belongs to a racial or ethnic minority (U.S. Census Bureau, 2020). If businesses like Target fail to fully commit to DEI, they are disregarding the lived experiences and needs of a significant portion of their consumers. Studies also show that companies with robust DEI policies show better performance and foster positive employee relations (McKinsey & Company, 2020). Therefore, it seems not just ethical, but also good business practices to stand firm on DEI initiatives.
