Denied Care After Turning 65: Stop TRICARE from Canceling Approved Treatment for Veterans

Denied Care After Turning 65: Stop TRICARE from Canceling Approved Treatment for Veterans
The Issue
Army Veteran Was Approved—Then Cut Off Overnight.
I served this country for 20 years.
I was promised healthcare for life.
But the moment I turned 65, that promise was broken.
On December 18, 2025, I transitioned from TRICARE Prime to TRICARE for Life. Before that, I had an approved prior authorization for my prescribed medication—valid through November 2026.
Then everything changed.
Without warning, TRICARE and Express Scripts refused to honor that approval. My appeal wasn’t even reviewed.
- Instead, I was told:
My medication is now “excluded” - I must pay 100% out of pocket
- My doctor’s medical necessity no longer matters
This isn’t just happening to me. It’s happening to veterans nationwide.
🚨 THE CRISIS
This policy creates a dangerous and unjust gap:
- Veterans are being cut off from approved care simply because they turned 65.
- No continuity of care
- No protection for existing approvals
- Appeals are blocked or ignored
- Bureaucratic rules override medical necessity
- This is a systematic failure.
🚨 THE PROBLEM
This policy creates a dangerous and unjust gap:
- Veterans with approved care lose coverage at age 65
- No continuity of care protections
- Appeals are blocked or ignored
- Bureaucratic rules override medical necessity
This is not just unfair—it’s dangerous.
⚖️ WHAT WE DEMAND
We call on Congress and the Department of Defense to:
✅ Honor existing prior authorizations
✅ Guarantee continuity of care after age 65
✅ Require appeals to be reviewed
✅ End policy exclusions that override medical necessity
❤️ WHY THIS MATTERS
This is about broken promises.
Veterans were told they would be taken care of—for life.
That promise must mean something.
