Fix this Game, and Listen to There Players That Make There Game Great
The Issue
- 1. Bugs – to the people that have been around the longest, the evade bug and what we call the ghost targeting bug is one of the biggest gripes we have. A bot shouldn’t give evade if it is not in the form that provides that passive buff. A bot shouldn’t die and still give evade. One support person thought this was acceptable. If that is the case then why don’t I get an armor buff after a bot dies? Or why don’t I sometimes get an armor buff when they are in the wrong form? Ghost targeting happens when targeting is used, jammed by the opponent, and all attacks still go to the bot that was initially targeted. Here is a video https://www.kamcord.com/v/FuR6aGTkeyg. I have been on both sides of this and it isn’t just luck. It has been 4 months and we feel like a bug should be addressed much more timely than this. These are HUGE bugs that tip the competitive balance and this type of bug needs immediate attention when it arises.
- 2. Response times on tickets. The email says 24 hours. Sometimes it takes much longer than that. From my experience the longest I have waited was 3 days. Some have waited weeks. I know the volume of tickets can dictate the response time, but the solution seems easy. Don’t promise 24 hours if it isn’t possible. I know it says “usually” but to most they are expecting an answer within 24 hours. OR just a quick note saying hey we are looking at this …stay tuned. Some think that the response given is insufficient. Personally, I feel like the responses I have gotten have been fair, but I am the representative from my clan, so I am just passing the information along. Though, the fact that energon is all that can be awarded now seems problematic. I know you will have some try to take advantage of you, but to those that provide evidence in the form of video or screenshots, maybe they deserve the benefit of the doubt. a. I am currently one of the people that CANNOT even log in to the game. I get to the loading screen, the white boxes flash, the blue circle spins, and I am stuck. I have tried everything to get in and can’t. Effectively is is costing me i. 30 gold per day because I can’t access my gold card ii. Spinister – I couldn’t log in yesterday to do the daily event, so I will not be able to build him for another week. iii. Participating in the current event in Solo or Team play b. I sent a ticket on Saturday morning when the issue began for me. I was given 50 energon. What am I supposed to do with 50 energon when I can’t even log in? I sent a reply saying thanks, but that doesn’t help…when will this be fixed Saturday morning and haven’t had a response. Can you provide any detail? Honestly A LOT depends on the resolution of this issue. If I don’t feel fairly compensated since I didn’t do anything wrong, didn’t make any mistakes, and have asked for help, I will quit because that says more about what the company feels about the players than anything else ever will.
- 3. The new solo reward cutoff at 150 – I can tell you that I will not spend any gold at all if the solo reward starts at 150. I am a good player but I don’t have the cash to spend to get me to that rank. 750 I could do because I could grind and spend a little bit of gold. I can tell you that many in our clan think the same. Why spend ANY when you won’t make it. The only way to make that cutoff is to get lucky on the Space Bridge AND buy a lot of energon. It should be moved back to 750 or the reward for making top 150 should be made better than 750, but the robots awarded stay the same. Maybe top 150 gets a higher level reward and 750 gets level 1.
- 4. Space Bridge – we have called it the Rape Bridge (terrible joke, but I thought you should know). Nobody in our clan wants to spend gold there because (A) they don’t know what their chances are of actually getting the bot they desire (B) They could spend thousands of gold and not get anything (C) it is prohibitively expensive to the more casual gamer. I know of league members that spend $300 on gold, used it all to gamble the bridge, and received nothing. I don’t feel bad for them because they knew like I did it was a gamble, but chose to spend there anyway. At least when I buy a lottery ticket I know the odds of winning because it is printed on the back of the ticket. The space bridge used to outline your odds, and I think it should again. Or like the current deal for Optimus Prime, there should be an option for a guaranteed bot for a guaranteed sum of gold. Some like to gamble, I don’t, but if it an event that I really want to do well in, maybe I will drop 1000 gold on the elite event bot. If it is an event I am not set on doing really well in, maybe I gamble up to 200-300 gold.
- 5. Burnout from the number of events. Every week with 24 hours rest is not enough time for rest. I know that our players who pay can only rank highly if they spend a lot of time on the event and a lot of money. Like I said earlier, I spend a little each event because that is what my budget dictates, but with the current status quo of needing top 150 overall solo, you are asking the paid players to really grind to assure their spot. I think part of the problem is that if you don’t get the rewards that top 150 solo or top 200 team provide, you are going to be very behind in PVP. If I hadn’t played well during Beast Wars Ep. 2 or Generation 2 Ep. 1, I would have sucked during the Dinobot stronghold, may not have gotten a high enough score to get the rewards, and been at a huge disadvantage during PVP. It is a slippery slope that leads to either needing to gamble bots in the space bridge, or quitting because you can’t be competitive anymore. I know the goal is to make money and events drive that, but I think there is a balance between the frequency of the events and the overall longevity of this game that needs to be struck. If events were on average 1-2 days shorter it would allow for 3-4 days of downtime. Or maybe after every 3 events, there is an off week to re-charge.
- 6. Disconnects/rage quits. Maybe this should be under the bugs section but at this stage in the game I feel like there should be a lot less of this happening than what occurs. I know that some players will quit mid-battle because they are losing which causes you to lose out on energon and EP all because they are immature and can’t handle losing. Is there a plan to address either of these issues?
- 7. Obtaining the elite bots is not currently possible unless you gamble on the space bridge. I will use Defensor as an example. I placed highly enough in both solo and team to get two of Hot Spot, blades and First Aid. I will however, never be able to build Defensor before he is obsolete because 50 cores for Rook is not going to happen for a very long time. I can’t farm them during the event unless I want to lose solo and team. I can’t farm them during the 24 hours between events because I need to rest and there really isn’t an opportunity. I chatted with a member of my team about this and he has experience with DeNA from SBT and said I may be able to look forward to obtaining him as a future event reward (apparently this happens in SBT). If I had missed out on Superion, and Silverbolt was offered as a reward now, I wouldn’t care because I would never use him or Superion because their stats are poor enough to not be usable. I understand that those who pay for an advantage should be able to have it, and maybe this is the case here. But I also know that your loyal fanbase looks at these bots as collectibles and they want to get all of them. If someone’s favorite bot/combiner can only be had by dropping hundreds of dollars in the space bridge, I feel like it will cause a good number of them to throw their hands in the air and quit. I know this game needs to make money but I think either the number of cores needed should change or there should be some way of farming them in a matter that is efficient enough as to allow the more casual players to get these elite bots after those who payed to get them early have had sufficient time to get an advantage. Maybe selecting a bot battle during a PVP event yields an even smaller amount of EP than a main event bot battle? Maybe Elites should cost 20 cores?
- 8. Bait and Switch – during Beast Wars Episode 2, Inferno and Scorpinok had cores drop. I gained a few of each. A day later they were taken away from me. That doesn’t seem right… During Beast Wars Episode 3, I fought hard to get Bat Optimus Prime for solo and league because he looked far and away superior to all other bots. The next day he wasn’t after the rebalance and I regretted spending gold to get him. The trend seems to be that DeNA leaps before looking where they might land. It is hard to have trust when things change suddenly and with no warning. A heads up on the forum saying that there is a rebalance next week and that all bots EXCEPT Batman would be a step forward. Testing the event or waiting until it is correct would be helpful.
- 9. Recruitment times – 7 days for the Super Rare bot and 2-3 days for the Elite doesn’t make sense. Either the Elite should take longer or the Super Rare should be shorter. I 100% side on the Super Rare bot being a shorter recruitment. 7 days is an eternity in this game and longer than an event lasts, and after the event the Super Rare bot is effectively obsolete and unusable from a competitive standpoint.
- 10. It feels like we get nickel and dimed on everything. I don’t know where you are from and this saying may be localized to my area, but what I am trying to say is that it is hard to trust your company because behind every door it seems like everything you do is about getting every last dollar from us. A perfect example is the free energon – great idea – but I have done the fast forwards a few times and gotten to the point where it says “free” only to be told I am unable to view any more ads to get the free energon. You don’t have to watch an ad to get the free drops, so this is inconsistent messaging. They should all be the same. Look, I know you have a tough job and that A LOT of people are complaining. I think what it boils down to is that the players are starting to feel like your company doesn’t give two shits about us as long as the money keeps coming in. And it will for a while. New players are realizing they can’t compete. Older players are realizing they can’t keep up without spending way more than they are comfortable with. Eventually all that will be left is a handful of players spending a lot, and a bunch of free players. Then the paying players will spend less noting that those who spent some in the past are gone and they don’t need to push as hard. This goes on until the paying players aren’t left with much of a challenge and the game dies. Right now the game meta is a team of Spinister, Slug, Grimlock, Bat Prime, and, if you are behind the curve, Inferno and Megatron. If you don’t have those characters you will lose more often than not in PVP and you will have little hope of gaining the rewards which perpetuates the problem unless you like gambling your paycheck. A warrior class team has no business facing me in PVP as I will mop the floor with them without so much as trying. So I guess let’s add…
- 11. Matchmaking – the system either needs to have more criteria to make a balanced match or lower tier players need a way to get the better bots without taking out a second mortgage. I have no idea how it works other than grouping tiers and PVP rank right now, but the tiers should be more tightly grouped. I personally think Command should only battle other Command. Below that the dark blue should battle light blue and green should only battle green, yellow should battle yellow and silver, and bronze only bronze. From there the pvp rank should be within 100-200 of the next closest player. Someone ranked 1800 shouldn’t be battling a 2200 rank (happened to me).
- I don' t know if you keep track of the competitve Meta, but right now it feels like a slots game and less like a strategy game. I will lay out the entire battle tactic of a good team. Team: Slug, Spinister, Grimlock, WFC Prime (basically the best combination of 3 First Strike Bots and Multistrike you can get) Round 1: Ability to use Jam 2 and either respin, respin all, or a point in Draw Fire 2. - thought is that everyone uses targeting so might as well Jam no matter what rather than take a guaranteed loss - depending on your rolls you will go for power/FS or Multistrike - If you get good rolls, then put a point in Draw Fire 2. If bad, re spin or respin all - Pray you get lucky by RNG targeting one bot twice or 3 times (if this happens you will most assuredly win unless facing subpar bots) Round 2: - Try to win FS by getting FS with three bots. By doing this you get first shot at RNG glory. - If you don't get 3 FS use respin to the best of RNG ability - If you don't think you will win FS then congrats, you will most likely lose the match if you didn't kill one of the enemy's bots round 1. Round 3 & 4: -Whichever team has the most bots after round 2 wins, so mop up the competition or hope to pick off one of the enemy's bots to get a couple more EP. Is that what the team has in mind for how matches should go?Thought you would find this pretty great and will illustrate exactly how frustrating this situation is.
- My favorite bot - Devastator Gold Saved - 6800+ did I get a single Long Haul core or the bot himself? No. I received 30 scrapper cores which is ok. But I think you see the problem. That 6800 gold is worth like $150. This shouldn't happen. Truth be told I might have been able to justify the spending of that much had I gotten the one epic and one super rare bot I needed. Normally I would NEVER spend anything on the space bridge because I know this, but, Devastator being my favorite I decided to do it. I wish the roll % to get the bots was published or that they were MUCH higher. I don't know if you can do anything about my situation, but I don't plan on ever spending money again on this game as it stands today. I really don't think words can express my frustration right now...
- Re: Feedback/Consulting -Epilogue That's what I figured but the business model can't seriously be geared to wanting people to spend upwards of $150 on a single event. I know some people are nuts and will spend 10x that but the vast majority of the players won't spend a dime. Not because they can't, but because the system doesn't reward casual spending. I cautiously admit that all of that gold - well 5800 of it was grounded out during stronghold so it's not like I lost a lot of real money. But I will never spend another dime until there are wholesale changes and transparency in the game mechanics.
- You said you want to fix the big bugs - why do you keep having events while bugs persist ruining the PVP experience? It's been at least a couple weeks since we spoke and the bugs have been around much longer than that. I understand not rolling out new content until the bugs are fixed but why make us spend money until then? How many people does it take to fix these problems? Does the game not generate enough money to pay for the programmers? Sorry but I feel jaded. What I want to do is change my in game name to DeNA is Broken. People in the clan want to start a petition on change.org (I find this quite amusing). Where do we stand with all these things that need fixing? I'll keep playing ONLY because I have made friends in the clan. Otherwise I would have deleted the app and made its personal mission to make sure anyone that read a review of the game or went to the Facebook page knew how broken the game is. Please tell me if I am being unreasonable. What would you do in my shoes?
