I grew up skating in Betsy Rhodes skatepark in Las Vegas, and from a young age, I began noticing its many structural flaws. Over the years, the park has deteriorated even further; lumps in the concrete and uneven coping have made skating a hazardous experience. Not to mention, cracks have sprouted all around. With another skatepark just up the street, I propose we demolish this old, unsafe park and replace it with something more modern and reliable.

By installing a 10ft halfpipe with 1 foot of vert, we can provide a new and challenging structure for skaters from around the city. The vision is to construct this featuring with safety in mind by fencing it in and requiring helmets for anyone who wishes to skate it. Doing so will help prevent injuries and create an environment where skaters of all skill levels can flourish.

The current condition of Betsy Rhodes skatepark not only limits the skills advancement of skaters but also poses unnecessary risks to their safety. It’s important to remember that skating is not just a hobby but a passion for many, providing essential physical exercise and a positive outlet for self-expression.
