This petition has been started to end the toxic and undemocratic effect that the DNC's Superdelegacy has had on the presidential voting process. The Superdelegacy allows 700 of the 4,600 committee delegates to vote for whichever presidential candidate they want, independent of the popular vote. It effectively takes power away from voters and gives it to a handful of political insiders. That is not democracy. That is OLIGARCHY, and IT NEEDS TO STOP.

If the Democratic party believes in the core values of democracy, it should destroy the superdelegacy. It is not fair for a candidate, in the very first stages of an election, to have a 300 delegate advantage that was not earned through the popular vote. When a candidate is already leading by hundreds of superdelegates, that should not be seen as a source of pride. It should be seen as manipulative and dangerous.

We are asking Democrats across America to stand up to the DNC. This petition is designed to tell them: we will not allow a handful of political elites to control our democratic elections.
