Demanding A Full Luton Station Redevelopment and Step Free Access For Leagrave Station
The Issue
Luton Rail station is a disgrace. An eyesore and a national embarrassment. Almost 4 million passengers use Luton railway station every year and is the first horrible impression that visitors have of Luton.
There are hundreds of millions of pounds worth of investment coming into the town as part of town centre regeneration. We will have the nearby Stage development and Power Court and yet our railway station is in such a decrepit state. It’s an embarrassment because this is the first impression rail users get when visiting the town.
The planned installation of a new bridge and lifts at the station will begin in December 2025 after a number of delays and two decades of campaigning and lobbying. But this is not enough. We desperately need wider redevelopment of the station.
Following a motion put forward at A Luton Council Full Council meeting on 18 March, we want people to get behind this petition which calls on the Government to work with Network Rail to commit to a full redevelopment of Luton station as well as a date for when step free access will be delivered for Leagrave Station.
Here is just a small selection of the comments on social media about the railway station:
"It's rundown sad, dark, cold, unattractive, feels unsafe at night, outdated."
"Inconvenient. Grubby. Unwelcoming. Embarrassing."
"Total eyesore, major station should have far more facilities & be well kept. Unwelcoming entrance to town."
Please sign so we can have a station which rail users and Lutonians deserve.
