Demand WRTA to Return Shrewsbury Resident Trips to the Shrewsbury Council on Aging

The Issue

As a resident of Shrewsbury, MA, I have experienced firsthand the difficulties and frustrations that come with trying to secure reliable transportation through the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA). The service has been consistently poor since they took over jurisdiction from the Shrewsbury Council on Aging. This is not just my experience; many other residents share this sentiment. Our struggle for proper transportation services hinders our independence and quality of life.

The transition from local control by our council to regional control by WRTA has resulted in a significant drop in service quality. We believe that returning jurisdiction back to the Shrewsbury Council on Aging will restore reliable and efficient transportation for all residents who depend on it.

We are not asking for special treatment but merely for a return to a system that worked well before its unwarranted change. It's time we reclaim our right to dependable public transport services which are crucial for maintaining independence, especially among elderly citizens who comprise 16% of our town's population Which is approximately 7961 seniors. Disabled citizens comprise 6% of our town's population which is approximately 1991 residents and rising. Which is approximately 10,000 residents that will potentially use/need transportation services   (US Census Bureau).

We urge you, fellow citizens and authorities alike, to stand with us as we demand WRTA transfer jurisdiction of all Shrewsbury resident trips back to the Shrewsbury Council on Aging. Please sign this petition today and help us regain control over our local transportation services.
