As a deeply concerned member in our community, it has become painfully clear that our Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools district has not sufficiently addressed the ongoing issues of bullying, harassment, and assault in our schools. The fear we, as parents, are experiencing regarding the safety of our children is palpable and unacceptable.

Recent national statistics show that one in every five students reports being bullied. This equates to over 20% of our student population that could potentially be living in fear every day (National Center for Educational Statistics, 2019). The emotional and physical safety of our children is paramount, and it is clear that our school district needs to take stronger, more effective actions to protect our students.

The development of every child into a healthy, secure, and productive citizen requires a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment. A failure to act on bullying, harassment, and assault undermines this process and leaves lasting scars.
