Sign and demand Western Beef to sell fresh meat, fresh produce & natural food options!
The Issue
Divine Appetites current Food Educator Certification students, who are Resident Council members and Garden leaders at Banana Kelly CIA in the Bronx, where six of your supermarkets are located, are taking a stand for all low income neighborhoods that are underserved by your unhealthy supermarkets. These communities are already struggling to find fresh produce within their Food Apartheid neighborhoods. (Which means areas where you are denied access to fresh food due to your race) Your stores take up valuable retail space and fill them with fake food!
In the height of a pandemic, high deaths from Covid-19, when food scarcity increased at record highs, families in low income areas, like the South Bronx, had to settle for your space. They did not have the option of a high end supermarket near by, like your 75 West End Avenue, location residents did. You were their main or only option. So before you open a new location, clean up the spaces you have now!
How does it feel to be leaders in the expired meat business? Do you know your stores are helping health disparities progress? You sell produce, at levels where those fruits and veggies are ready to be used as compost. The meat you sell smells and there is a lack of affordable organic or all natural brands. Why must you sell aisles and aisles of high preservative, high sodium and high sugar foods?
We demand options! Give us a choice! Or leave our neighborhood! The residents of the communities you invade and delude with cheap prices ask that you offer products that support their health! It is imperative that you respond with action or we will begin a boycott!
