The Issue

As a concerned group of citizens, devastated beyond words, we must address a grave injustice concerning a young, innocent life lost. You, like us, may still be grappling with the shocking news of Izabella Loving's untimely and tragic demise. She suffered unspeakable abuse, inflicted by her own father, Nicholas Loving, and tragically, she did not survive. The pain is unimaginable, and the anger is sincere – a child has paid the ultimate price for adults failing to prioritize her safety.

Andrea Loving, Izabella's mother, failed to protect her from this horrific abuse. Despite any reasons or reservations she may have had, her primary duty always should have been to her child's wellbeing. This pervasive neglect has cost us a life too young to be lost.

We must emphasize that this tragic event is not an isolated incident. The National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS) reported that an estimated 1,840 children died from abuse or neglect in the U.S. in 2019. Every one of these cases is a damning indictment on the system, a stain on our collective conscience.

We implore the District Attorney of Washoe County, Nevada, to bring charges against Andrea Loving. This action is not just about penalizing one individual. It is about sending a powerful message that neglect and indifference toward a child's suffering would not be tolerated.

In honor of Izabella and countless others who have suffered at the hands of those meant to protect them, it's time for justice. Now more than ever, we must stand up for the innocent lives lost and the rights of every child to be safe, loved, and protected. Please sign this petition to urge the District Attorney of Washoe County, Nevada, to take action.

Washoe County District Attorney
Responded
Like so many in our community, my office was heartbroken to hear of the death of Izebella Loving and the terrible injuries she suffered. A complete and thorough investigation is critical to pursuing justice for this victim and it remains our highest priority. To that end, my office’s most experienced prosecutors are working closely with detectives from the Sheriff’s Office as they complete their investigation. The District Attorney’s Office will carefully review all available evidence and ensure that every legally viable charge is pursued. We will keep the community updated to the extent we can however, we are not able to comment specifically on the case involving Loving at this time. Initial charges filed in a case may be amended or added to at a later stage. Prosecutors must meet high burdens of proof at every stage, particularly when filing charges. Updates or changes to the charges often arise from further investigation, advanced forensic testing or, in the case involving a death, a coroner’s report or expert analysis. Thank you for reaching out to my office with your concerns. We will continue to provide updates as we are able, without compromising the integrity of the case. Christopher J. Hicks Washoe County District Attorney
