The Issue

As a dedicated fan and follower of the Walt Disney Company's productions, I was deeply disappointed by the final cut of "Wish". The film, which began development under CEO Bob Chapek's leadership, failed to meet fans' expectations, got mixed reception from critics and performed poorly at the box office. I believe that the directors, Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn were pressured into creating a version that did not fully represent their vision. Elements such as Easter eggs referencing the studio's previous films and Valentino the Goat gaining the ability to talk felt like Chapek's influence rather than integral parts of an authentic story, since the film was meant to celebrate the company's 100th anniversary.

Moreover, there were intriguing concepts that did not make it into the final cut like Star being a humanoid shape-shifter and Asha's love interest and Queen Amaya being the female antagonist, we should've gotten our first villainous couple in a Disney movie. This leads me to suspect that a superior version - a directors' cut - exists somewhere within Disney's vaults. If this is true, then fans deserve to see it.

The release of a directors' cut could also potentially redeem "Wish" in public opinion. It would demonstrate Disney’s respect for its creators’ artistic integrity and its commitment to delivering quality content for its audience.

Therefore, we call upon The Walt Disney Company to release this potential directors' cut if it exists. Let us experience "Wish" as it was initially intended by its directors, Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn. We urge you all who share our sentiments about preserving artistic vision in filmmaking industry to sign this petition today!
