Demand Vaughan Gething's Resignation as First Minister of Wales

The Issue

Update 05.06.2024

Today was a historic day in the Senedd and for Welsh Politics as Vaughan Gething loses in a Vote of Confidence against him. Whilst it's not necessarily a day of positivity that it has gotten this far, it is nonetheless monumental and it's about time that the First Minister was held accountable for his actions

Whilst Vaughan Gething has stated he will not resign following this vote, this issue isn't going to end until he's out of office. His integrity has been called into question and the longer he stays in post, the more damage is made to Welsh Politics and the trust in the Senedd

If our leaders don't accept responsibility, then what does it say about Wales on the world stage? I suspect it's now a matter of time before Vaughan Gething finally resigns from the office of First Minister. Whether he does so on his own volition or is forced to do so against his will is now up to him

Update 07.05.2024

Today a very shocking revelation has been made in relation to scandals surrounding the First Minister. When he took the stand in the UK Covid Inquiry, it appears that he may have misled the inquiry which would be an act of perjury. If true, this would be a direct violation of the Ministerial Code which should lead to Vaughan Gething's resignation as First Minister of Wales, although his insistence to dodge scrutiny on these accusations doesn't fill anyone with much confidence.

More information about these allegations can be found in this Nation.Cymru article.

Original Petition Text

This petition is driven by a deeply personal concern about the integrity of our political leadership. The recent scandal involving Vaughan Gething, the First Minister for Wales, has raised serious questions about his ability to lead. A £200k donation was made to Gething's leadership campaign by Dauson Environmental Group, a company previously convicted of environmental offences. This in itself is alarming enough, but it has now come to light that this same company received a £400k loan from the Development Bank of Wales whilst Vaughan Gething was serving as Economy Minister. There are suspicions that these donations were funded using this loan however the Development Bank of Wales has refuted this.

These allegations need thorough investigation and until they are resolved satisfactorily, we believe that Vaughan Gething cannot be trusted to lead the Welsh Government effectively or ethically. We demand his immediate resignation and call for an urgent Senedd Election so that we can ensure our government is led by individuals who uphold the highest standards of integrity.

The mainstream media aren't interested in reporting on political issues like this in Wales, so it's up to us to make noise on this and hold our government accountable to the people it serves.

We urge you all to sign this petition and join us in demanding accountability from our leaders. Your signature can make a difference in ensuring our government leads with integrity.
