Demand VA fiduciary program reform to protect veterans
The Issue
For over six months, I have struggled to get my assigned VA Fiduciary to fulfill their duty by paying my essential bills. Despite my continuous efforts and having a special needs toddler at home, my fiduciary has routinely ignored my requests. The situation became so dire that I had to reach out to my congresswoman’s office for intervention as the VA proved uncooperative.
This isn't just my struggle—many disabled veterans in the VA Fiduciary Program face similar battles, being consistently ignored and left vulnerable due to fiduciary misuse of funds. The very system designed to protect us fails to hold these rogue federal employees accountable, jeopardizing the livelihood and stability of those who have served our nation.
Veterans like myself rely on the VA Fiduciary Program for financial management due to disabilities that render us dependent on these fiduciaries to effectively manage our affairs. Tragically, there exists an alarming number of fiduciaries who misuse funds or neglect their responsibilities, leaving veterans stranded without recourse or immediate remedy. According to reports, fiduciary negligence affects approximately 125,000 veterans nationwide. The very department meant to safeguard our interests is turning a blind eye.
We need immediate congressional intervention to reform the VA Fiduciary Program. Such reform should include more robust oversight mechanisms, transparent accountability processes, and swift punitive action against fiduciary misconduct. It should mandate a streamlined process for vets to report abuses and ensure the VA responds promptly and effectively. The implementation of regular audits and compliance checks can drastically reduce financial mismanagement and protect veterans' interests.
The lives of many veterans and their families hinge on the functionality and reliability of this program. By failing to act, we are not just neglecting veterans’ needs; we are neglecting our moral obligation to those who have sacrificed for our freedom.
Join me in urging Congress to legislate meaningful changes in the VA Fiduciary Program. Veterans should feel secure, not betrayed by the systems meant to protect them. Sign this petition to demand accountability, proper fiduciary practices, and justice for disabled veterans across America.
There needs to be a more streamlined process for disabled veterans like me to exit the fiduciary program. This is so we can manage our own finances without the government stripping our rights without due process.
