Demand Urgent Cleanup of Toxic Waste from LA Beaches

Demand Urgent Cleanup of Toxic Waste from LA Beaches
The Issue
For 25 years I have lived in the heart of Los Angeles County and the SouthBay and reveled in the natural beauty of its beaches. I am an environmentalist and pioneer in sustainable surfboards, living my life closely intertwined with the health of our ocean and marine life. I have never seen the pristine beaches and marine habitats in such a disastrous and toxic state. The devastating LA fires have left our beaches replete with toxic waste, burnt structures, and a dire predicament for our oceanic and human life.
This toxic waste not only threatens our community's wellbeing but is causing a catastrophic impact on our marine life in the Santa Monica basin. With toxins running off directly into the ocean, we are fostering an ecological disaster and it’s only growing. Seeing sick and dying marine creatures in an environment millions of Angelenos cherish and respect, breaks my heart and drives this plea for immediate and decisive action.
Dirty & empty beaches dramatically affect countless businesses that thrive on coastal access. PCH remains closed which has completely shut down access to businesses that depend on tourist traffic up and down this scenic stretch of our beloved coastline.
Millions of tourists and Angelenos frequent these beaches and utilize this ocean playground. For the past 2 and a half months this invaluable resource has been closed & shutoff essentially crippling the local economy.
With wildfires increasing due to climate change, we’re asking for these immediate steps
- Not just a one-time cleanup but a robust disaster response system for such future events.
- Urging local and state officials to address this threat is the crux of this petition.
- We seek a comprehensive action plan, securing a clean and safe environment for both residents and marine life.
For the love of our city, the health of our oceans, and a sustainable future for coming generations, I implore you to sign this petition, our collective voice being the potent catalyst for this change.
