Immigrant students, who are legally studying in the U.S., are being detained suddenly and without explanation by ICE.

Every day, we hear stories of these students—who are here with legal visas—treated as criminals.

This must stop.

The recent case of a University of Minnesota graduate student, detained by ICE without notice, is a disturbing example. The school was given no warning, and the student's rights remain unclear. The only positive here is that the university is offering support and legal aid to the student, but this is not the norm.

Too many universities are leaving their students unsupported, afraid to stand up for what’s right.

We demand that universities act.

They must provide legal aid and support to students in situations like this.

Universities should be sanctuaries where students can focus on learning, not fear being detained or deported.

This practice is a direct violation of their rights and undermines the very purpose of education. We need every university to guarantee their students are safe, especially those who are legally entitled to be here.
