Demand Uber to Establish Fair Pay, Equal to 150% of Minimum Wage for Drivers

Demand Uber to Establish Fair Pay, Equal to 150% of Minimum Wage for Drivers
The Issue
My name is a placeholder for countless Uber drivers like me, who sustain their livelihood and families using the income we generate through this online platform. Being drivers, we play a pivotal role within the Uber ecosystem, completing thousands of rides daily, keeping cities moving, and ensuring Uber's continued growth. However, despite our countless hours on the road, we find ourselves struggling to thrive, as our pay does not adequately reflect the service we provide. Uber drivers like me continue to earn much less than 150% of the minimum wage, which, in my opinion, is barely enough to cover our costs and support our families.
Unfortunately, this issue is not unique to me. According to a 2018 study by the Economic Policy Institute, Uber drivers earn less than $10 per hour, after deducting commissions, fees, and vehicle expenses, which is significantly below the federal minimum wage in the United States (Cooper and Mishel, 2018). This stark reality draws a disturbing picture of income insecurity amongst drivers, a fact made even worse by the lack of fair rules in the platform economy.
Therefore, I urge Uber to reassess its payment policies. It is not an unreasonable demand to ask for decent pay that empathizes with our behind-the-scenes struggles. By providing a fair pay structure, equal to 150% of the minimum wage, Uber would significantly improve the lives of its drivers. Furthermore, implementing fair rules for drivers would promote better working conditions, and ensure the platform moves closer to a sustainable, harmonious ecosystem.
Please sign this petition, contribute your voice, and demand Uber to establish fairer pay for drivers.
