For too long now Twitter has profited from trolls and fake accounts who destroy people's lives.

If Twitter is a good corporate citizen then it must only allow accounts that use real names and are associated with a phone number. It is simply too easy to create a fake account with an e-mail address.

Fake accounts harass individuals and make defamatory statements, leaving the victim with no recourse. Twitter's reporting policies will often declare the offending tweets as not breaking their rules.

After listening to feedback, I understand the need for some people to remain anonymous and the ability for people to run parody accounts.

So, as long as these accounts are not found guilty of harassment and adhere to two-factor authentication, I believe they are different to the FAKE accounts we are targeting.

Today, a friend of mine was in tears after being harrassed again by an individual who keeps making fake accounts. Their only aim is to intimidate and cause anxiety. Suspending the odd account is simply not good enough, we need EVERY account verified with a real name so we know who we are talking to.

It is time for victims to be able to hold these cowards to account. Fake accounts are a scourge used by trolls to destroy lives. It's time the users of Twitter take control and stand up for what is right.

How many more people have to kill themselves before we take this issue seriously?
