The Issue

We call on Parliament to introduce a standard of conduct requiring that all elected officers - whether backbenchers, Ministers or any spokesperson representing the Government  - must provide clear, honest and direct answers to questions related to government and public policy.

Furthermore all public statements, announcements or media communications - must be truthful, unambiguous, and relative of the facts.

Any Member of Parliament who fails to meet this standard should face disciplinary action such as temporary removal of the party whip for a minimum of on month. Holding our elected representatives to higher standards of honesty is essential for maintaining public trust and and a healthy democracy.

We also call for the same standard of conduct and transparency in responses given by the Prime Minister (or stand-in) during Prime Ministers Questions. We believe that the spirit of democratic engagement is best served when questions are answered directly, respectfully and without unnecessary evasion to promote a more meaningful engagement.
