Demand True Ownership Rights for Gamers from Game Companies

The Issue

As a gamer, I have personally experienced the disappointment and frustration of losing access to a game I paid for. The recent shutdown of "The Crew" by Ubisoft was a stark reminder that despite paying for digital games, we as the consumers do not truly own them. These games can be forever taken away at any moment by the companies that produce them, leaving us powerless and out of pocket.

This is not just about one game or one company; it's an industry-wide problem. In 2023 alone, over 60 games were killed, with players losing access to their purchases forever. This is unacceptable.

We need legislation in place to protect our rights as consumers. We are calling on the lawmakers and Represnatives in New York State to lead the way by requiring all gaming companies provide true ownership rights to their customers. This means ensuring that if a game is shut down, it must be modified to allow an offline experience whenever feasible so gamers can continue enjoying what they've paid for.

The balance of power has been in the hands of corporations for too long. They have focused purely on profit to the point where they will strip consumers of their rightfully owned purchases. This is not isolated and it will spread, we've already seen this in Smart TV's Like Roku. If we do not address this problem today we will live in a future where nobody will own anything in our nation and people will be slaves to the corporations. We Must Not Allow This To Happen!
