Demand Transparency in the Reno Police Department Investigation

Reno Residents Demand Full Transparency Regarding Investigation of Police Chief and Officers

To:

The Reno City Council
The Reno City Manager
The Mayor of Reno

We, the residents and community members of Reno and Washoe County, respectfully call for full transparency regarding the ongoing investigation involving leadership within the Reno Police Department.
On March 9, 2026, the City of Reno announced that Police Chief Kathryn Nance and five Reno Police Department officers were placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation into alleged policy violations is conducted by the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

Despite the seriousness of this action, the City has released very limited information regarding the matter.
Public trust in law enforcement depends on transparency, accountability, and honest communication between government and the community it serves.

When senior leadership within a police department is under investigation, the public deserves clear information about what occurred and how the issue will be resolved.

Therefore, we respectfully call on the City of Reno to:

Disclose the names and ranks of the officers placed on administrative leave, consistent with Nevada public records laws.

Provide a clear description of the alleged policy violations or misconduct under investigation.

Publish a timeline of events explaining when city leadership first became aware of the allegations.

Commit to releasing the complete investigative findings once the investigation concludes.

Provide regular public updates to ensure transparency throughout the investigative process.

This petition does not presume guilt for any individual involved. Due process must be respected. However, public accountability is essential in a democratic society, particularly when those entrusted with enforcing the law are themselves under investigation.

Transparency strengthens trust. Silence weakens it.

We ask the City of Reno to uphold the principles of accountability and public service by ensuring the community receives the information it deserves.

Respectfully,

Concerned Residents of Reno and Washoe County
