Kamea was just 11 years old when she died in captivity at SeaWorld San Antonio — far short of the 50+ years wild orcas can live. She was born in a tank, raised behind glass, and died without ever feeling the open ocean.

SeaWorld has not released her cause of death. As the public mourns yet another loss, we’re left with questions — and a growing sense that this model of entertainment is broken.

This isn’t just about one orca. It’s about a system that has kept intelligent, social marine mammals in concrete enclosures for profit. SeaWorld pledged change after public outcry years ago, but the shows continued, and so did the suffering.

We call on SeaWorld to release Kamea’s necropsy report to the public, fully end orca performances, and commit to relocating its remaining orcas to seaside sanctuaries where they can live with space, dignity, and natural stimulation.

The time for halfway measures is over. Transparency, accountability, and compassion must lead the way forward. Don’t let Kamea’s death be in vain; she deserves justice.
