Demand to the Election Commission of India to Cease Use of Electronic Voting Machines

The Issue

As a deeply concerned citizen deeply affected by the results of  Haryana Vidhan Sabha Elections 2024 held on October 5th, 2024, I feel it is paramount to share my story for the sake of India's democratic ethics. The results announced on October 8th offered shocking cues suggesting that the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were not only faulty but possibly manipulated. Issues such as EVMs not functioning correctly, Evm machines being faulty, and EVMs showing battery levels charged up to 90% after being in custody for three days raised serious concerns.

The robustness of India's democracy depends on the transparency and the trust the citizens have in the electoral process. According to a study by the Indian Statistical Institute, the probability of EVMs being tampered with is not null (The Hindu, 2017). These concerns have been reiterated in various platforms by scholars, technicians, and political stakeholders.

Germany has Banned Evms in the year 2008 on grounds that use of these machines are threat to the process of Free and Fair Elections

We appeal to the Election Commission of India to discontinue the use of Electronic Voting Machines, prone to tampering, to uphold the sanctity of India's democratic process. Our democracy deserves an electoral process that is transparent, credible, and immune to fraudulent practices. Therefore, we demand an immediate halt to the implementation of EVMs in our electoral process.

Help us protect the integrity of our nation's election system. Sign this petition to support our call for the discontinuation of Electronic Voting Machines.
