Demand to Build Noise Pollution Mitigation on SH211 Bordering the Falcon Landing Community
The Issue
My family and I, along with over 90 homes in the Falcon Landing community, are suffering! Two years after settling into what was meant to be a cornerstone of our future, the completion of SH211 construction between FM1957 and FM471 has shattered this peace we so eagerly sought. Disrupted sleep along with mental and physical distress have become our new normal due to the overwhelming noise pollution from SH211. Noise pollution does more than just disrupt peace and quiet - it negatively impacts health and quality of life. According to the World Health Organization, noise pollution can lead to increased stress, sleep disturbances, and cognitive impairment.
After nearly four decades as a military child turned military spouse, I have spent the majority of my life moving from place to place without having any feeling of permanence. Falcon Landing was the first place I could genuinely call home. Now the serenity of our space has been invaded by the endless noise that often exceeds volumes of 65DbA. We took actions in attempts to regain our peace, investing over $10,000 to reinforce the interior walls of our house, but the noise continues unabated.
Despite the extreme proximity of our community to SH211 compared to other subdivisions, Falcon Landing was not included in the Final Environmental Assessment of 2017 (https://ftp.txdot.gov/pub/txdot/get-involved/sat/sh-211/final-ea.pdf prior to the onset of road construction. Considering Falcon Landing was depicted on multiple exhibits in the initial survey, the community was conspicuously omitted in the construction considerations, with other distant regions prioritized instead. It seems as though we are invisible, our concerns unheard by county planners and TxDOT engineers. Further exasperating our suffering, the impending opening of a large HEB is expected to lead to a substantial increase in traffic.
We urge the local authorities to reassess the construction parameters of SH211 with our community in mind to curb noise pollution. We are residents who have served, built lives, and want to continue living peacefully without the harsh disruption. To the county planners and TxDOT engineers, please give Falcon Landing the attention it deserves and diligently work towards a solution that will safeguard our community's health and comfort. Instead of standing by while pervasive noise forces residents like me out of the homes we worked so hard to earn, let us invest in solutions that prioritize residents' well-being and peace.
Sign this petition to demand action on the unacceptable noise levels from SH211. Thank you for your support!
