We are students at Briggs School in Warwick, RI who want the right to carry our phones at school. The ban on phones has become a personal issue because if there is an emergency and the school phones are down, then our safety is at risk. This issue became alarming enough for us to voice out when we realized that we could be in severe danger if we can't contact anyone during such emergencies. Moreover, the restrictions seem to have overstepped personal boundaries, as school authorities exercise unwarranted searches without our consent.

Data from National Education Association (NEA) shows that 88% of teenagers aged 13 to 17 have or have access to a cellphone. We are among them and understand the importance of responsible usage. The same source mentions that clear and practical policies can result in effective and suitable use of cellphones that enhance the learning environment rather than disrupt it.
