Demand the Resignation of Minister of Education Priya Manickchand
The Issue
Our children's education is at stake. The Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Priya Manickchand, has consistently failed to meet and negotiate with the Guyana Teacher's Union and Teachers for collective bargaining. This failure has led to a severe underpayment crisis among our educators, prompting some to resort to strike action. These strikes have disrupted our children's learning environment and threaten their future.
According to data from the World Bank, teachers in Guyana are among the lowest paid in South America (World Bank Report 2019). This is not only an injustice against our hardworking educators but also a disservice to our children who deserve quality education from motivated and well-compensated teachers.
The situation calls for immediate change at the top level. We demand that Minister Priya Manickchand resigns from her position as Minister of Education due to her inability or unwillingness to address these critical issues affecting our educational system.
We need a leader who will prioritize fair wages for teachers, engage in open dialogue with unions, and above all else put the needs of our students first. Sign this petition if you believe in better pay for teachers and a brighter future for Guyanese children.
