The Issue

My journey with the US Constitution began in earnest back in 1976. I served as a Peace Corps volunteer for two years and swore an oath to support and protect this beacon of our democracy. My dedication only deepened while I served as a Census Bureau Field Representative from 1996 to 2012, once again affirming my commitment to uphold our Constitution. This story is not just about me, it echoes the dedication of thousands who have taken similar paths, who have promised to serve and guard our cherished principles.

The Presidential immunity order, as it stands, contradicts the tenets of responsibility and accountability that our Constitution esteems. The US Supreme Court bears the honor of being the guardian of our Constitution and with it the responsibility to scrutinize every action, every decision that might tarnish our democratic values. The immunity order absolves the President of any illegality committed while in office, creating an imbalance in our democratic system that undermines the principle of equal treatment under law.

During Nixon’s presidency, the Department Of Justice (DOJ) issued a memorandum stating that a President cannot be indicted or criminally prosecuted because it would undermine the executive branch's ability to perform its constitutionally assigned duties. Therefore, it grants a President de facto immunity, a position vigorously debated upon given the potential for abuse and divergence from the rule of law (Source: Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel memos, 1973 and 2000).

We, as citizens dedicated to the support of our Constitution, seek a review and potentially rescind the presidential immunity order. We appeal to the Supreme Court for this request, not out of dissatisfaction, but out of commitment to the very foundations our country is built on – the principles of justice, equality, and the rule of law.

Sign this petition to join us in ensuring that our guardianship of the Constitution holds strong and true. Make a stand for accountability, equality, and justice in our democratic system.
