The Issue

I am a disabled homeless woman, and the charges Keith McCrady is facing strike deep at my core. They represent a threat to vulnerable people within our community, people just like me – the homeless, the disabled, the women and children, the elderly, and particularly, Indigenous people who often find themselves on the fringes of our society. This isn't merely an exercise in accountability; it's a matter of safety and trust.

Keith McCrady, the former executive director of the 2Spirits crisis team, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault. These charges pose a significant concern for the communities he is supposed to represent and protect in his role on the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee of Toronto. The city of Toronto can and must do better in safeguarding these marginalized groups who rely on the integrity of public representatives.

The Advisory Committee plays a vital role in addressing the needs of Indigenous communities in Toronto. It should be a haven of safety and advocacy, free from clouded judgment or potential threats posed by representatives facing serious criminal charges. To rebuild trust, it is essential to prioritise the welfare and security of our community members especially when they are most vulnerable.

I am calling on the Toronto City Council to take immediate action and permanently remove Keith McCrady from the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee. This decisive move will not only protect those who are at risk but also send a message that Toronto is committed to ensuring safety and justice for all its residents.

Join me in urging the Toronto City Council to act decisively. Sign this petition to hold our city accountable for the protection and well-being of its most vulnerable citizens. Together, we can foster a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone.
