We, the undersigned, demand the immediate release of Filemon Ruiz Cielo and Margarita Cielo Balbuena, who were detained by agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement while on their way to work on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

According to family members and witnesses, they were stopped and taken into custody without being shown a judicial warrant or court order. Their detention has caused severe emotional distress, fear, and hardship for their loved ones and community.

What makes this situation even more alarming is that agents ignored serious medical concerns involving both detainees. Filemon Ruiz Cielo recently underwent back surgery and requires proper medical care, rest, and monitoring during his recovery. Despite this, family members state that his medical condition was disregarded during the detention.

Margarita Cielo Balbuena also suffers from ongoing medical conditions that require daily attention and care. Her family fears that her health and wellbeing are now at risk while she remains detained.
